What dietitians miss in California
- Medical nutrition therapy by an RD in California is on referral, and the referral must come with a written prescription stating the diagnosis and a diet order or treatment objective.
- A business giving nutrition advice under § 2068 must post a printed notice at least 8.5 by 11 inches.
- California residents cannot use the compact, so every out-of-state client state needs its own license.

California protects titles without issuing a license. Using "dietitian," "registered dietitian," "RD" or "RDN" without meeting the statutory qualifications (including CDR's exam and continuing education) is a misdemeanor, while § 2068 lets anyone give nutritional advice.

Licensing in California?
California does not issue a dietitian license, so the work here is usually payer enrollment, which our sister credentialing team handles. For a license, we prepare every supporting document and a question-by-question guide, request your verifications, and track it to a decision; you complete, sign and submit the application. License by endorsement is $599 per state.
