What dietitians miss in Georgia

Does Georgia license dietitians?

Georgia licenses dietitians, and its rules treat practice without a current license as unlawful, with each day a separate violation. The board may license without examination a current RD or a dietitian licensed in a state with substantially equal requirements.

  • License
  • Licensed Dietitian (LD)
  • Practice is restricted to credential holders

Is Georgia in the Dietitian Compact?

Georgia has enacted the Dietitian Licensure Compact (2026), but no state issues compact privileges yet. Until they start, practicing here takes the state's own credential.

  • Compact enacted, not issuing yet

Can a dietitian licensed elsewhere get a Georgia credential by endorsement?

License without examination is open to holders of a valid dietitian license from a state with substantially equal or greater requirements, and to anyone currently registered as an RD with CDR. Every applicant also submits a secure and verifiable document and an affidavit of citizenship.

  • Endorsement or registration-based route
  • CDR registration not required

Does Georgia have a jurisprudence exam?

Exam applicants pass a board-approved exam; RDs and endorsement applicants are licensed without one. The rules name no state law exam.

  • No state jurisprudence exam

Telehealth dietitians and Georgia

No telehealth registration. A nonresident RD may practice in Georgia for five days without a license, or up to 30 days a year if licensed in a state with substantially equal requirements.

Does Georgia offer a provisional permit for new graduates?

A provisional permit lets an exam applicant practice as a Provisionally Licensed Dietitian (PLD) under a Georgia licensed dietitian, with monthly on-site visits and weekly check-ins. It lasts one year and is never issued to anyone who has failed a board exam.

  • Provisional permit available

Does Georgia credential non-RD nutritionists?

Georgia has no nutritionist license. People with a nutrition master's or doctorate are exempt from the act as long as they do not use the title "dietitian."

  • No separate nutritionist credential

How often does a Georgia dietitian credential renew?

All licenses expire March 31 of even-numbered years, with late renewal through April 30. Renewal requires 30 continuing education units per two-year cycle; anyone licensed in the second year of the cycle is exempt that cycle.

  • Renews every 2 years
  • 30 CE hours per cycle
