What dietitians miss in North Dakota
- North Dakota's license title is "licensed registered dietitian" (LRD), not LD or LDN.
- An out-of-state dietitian can practice up to 30 days a year with board approval, without a full license.
- The board may require a statewide and nationwide criminal history check for licensure or renewal. Active-duty military and spouses stationed in North Dakota pay no license fees.
Does North Dakota license dietitians?

The statute sets a $25 fee unless the board sets another by rule.
Does North Dakota offer a provisional permit for new graduates?
A provisional license is available with the first application for the exam, for graduates within five years of finishing academic and supervised practice. Holders practice under a licensed dietitian or nutritionist; it ends on a failed exam and can be renewed once.

Does North Dakota credential non-RD nutritionists?
A licensed nutritionist route requires a master's or doctoral nutrition degree, supervised practice and an approved exam such as the CNS exam. Nutritionists renew with board-approved continuing education.

How often does a North Dakota dietitian credential renew?
A license expires one year after it is issued. Late renewal is allowed up to one year after expiration, with a late fee. Statute caps every board fee at $250.
