What dietitians miss in Ohio
- Ohio is one of the few states that restricts the practice of dietetics itself, not just the title.
- Out-of-state applicants must arrange BCI and FBI fingerprint checks, either in Ohio through WebCheck or with forms the board mails.
- The application fee is $225, a limited permit is $65 and a license verification is $50.
Does Ohio license dietitians?

Can a dietitian licensed elsewhere get a Ohio credential by endorsement?
Ohio has no separate reciprocity rule; its licensure-by-reciprocity rule was rescinded. Out-of-state RDNs apply on current CDR registration, which waives the education, supervised practice and exam requirements.
- Endorsement or registration-based route
- CDR registration not required
Citation: Ohio Rev. Code 4759.06(B)
Does Ohio have a jurisprudence exam?
The exam is the one the board approves from CDR. CE for each two-year renewal must include one hour of ethics or Ohio dietetics laws and rules, but no separate jurisprudence exam is required.
- No state jurisprudence exam
Does Ohio require fingerprints?
- Fingerprint background check
Telehealth dietitians and Ohio
No telehealth registration exists. The Academy lists Ohio as requiring licensure for telehealth, with the medical board's telehealth rules (OAC 4731-37) applied to dietitians.
Does Ohio offer a provisional permit for new graduates?
A limited permit lets a graduate who finished education and supervised practice, and applied for the exam, practice for six months, renewable once. After a first failed exam the holder works only under direct supervision; a second failure ends the permit.
- Provisional permit available
Does Ohio credential non-RD nutritionists?
Ohio licenses dietitians only. It has no separate nutritionist license.
- No separate nutritionist credential
How often does a Ohio dietitian credential renew?
Licenses run two years from issuance. RDNs certify the CE needed to keep CDR registration plus one hour of ethics or Ohio law; non-RD licensees complete 30 hours, including that hour, with a documented learning plan. Renewal costs $180.
- Renews every 2 years
