What dietitians miss in Vermont

Does Vermont license dietitians?

Vermont certifies dietitians through the Office of Professional Regulation. The law bars only using letters, words or insignia implying that one is a certified dietitian without certification. Proof of current CDR registration qualifies an applicant, and registered dietitians skip the state exam.

  • Certification
  • Certified Dietitian
  • Only the title is protected

Citation: 26 V.S.A. ch. 73 (3381 to 3390)

Is Vermont in the Dietitian Compact?

Vermont is not a Dietitian Compact member.

  • Not a compact member

Can a dietitian licensed elsewhere get a Vermont credential by endorsement?

No separate endorsement route is needed for RDNs: proof of CDR registration meets the eligibility requirement and waives the exam. Others need a dietetics degree, 900 supervised practicum hours and an exam.

  • Endorsement or registration-based route
  • CDR registration not required

Citation: 26 V.S.A. 3385, 3386(d)

Does Vermont have a jurisprudence exam?

Registered dietitians are not required to take the state exam. No state jurisprudence exam was confirmed.

Telehealth dietitians and Vermont

Vermont offers a telehealth license or telehealth registration to health care professionals credentialed in good standing elsewhere, valid for telehealth only and not for in-person care or an office in Vermont. The Academy lists it as a route for dietitians.

  • Out-of-state telehealth registration available

Does Vermont credential non-RD nutritionists?

Vermont certifies dietitians only. No nutritionist credential exists.

  • No separate nutritionist credential

How often does a Vermont dietitian credential renew?

Certificates renew every two years with at least 30 hours of Director-approved continuing education in the preceding two years. A lapsed certificate is reinstated with the renewal fee and a late penalty.

  • Renews every 2 years
  • 30 CE hours per cycle
