What dietitians miss in Virginia
- Holding a current dietitian license from another state is one of the ways to qualify to use the dietitian or nutritionist title in Virginia.
- Misusing the title is a Class 3 misdemeanor.
- Because Virginia does not license or certify dietitians, the Compact Commission lists it among states that cannot join the compact.
Does Virginia license dietitians?
Virginia issues no dietitian license or certificate. The law only limits who may call themselves a dietitian or nutritionist, alone or with "licensed," "certified" or "registered." Active CDR registration, a CNS or DACBN credential, or a license from another state meets the standard. Nutrition services themselves are not restricted.
- Title protection only
- Only the title is protected

Licensing in Virginia?
Virginia does not issue a dietitian license, so the work here is usually payer enrollment, which our sister credentialing team handles. For a license, we prepare every supporting document and a question-by-question guide, request your verifications, and track it to a decision; you complete, sign and submit the application. License by endorsement is $599 per state.
